HARRY

Harry was the youngest son of John and Kate.  He was raised near Williamsport.  As a small child he was very ill with TB of the bone.  It left him with a stiff knee.  He was always a tease and a torment, always a very happy person.   He worked many years for the US Post office as a rural mail man.  He started delivery with a horse and wagon.

Harry and Louie moved to Columbus with their parents where they lived for a year.  Father John bought a farm near Gahanna.  Harry met and married Gladys Marie Lowry on Feb. 27, 1916.  Harry and Marie were very active in the Lutheran Church.  Marie worked in the Post Office for several years and also as secretary at her church.

They had two children, Harry Maurice, b. Nov. 4, 1916 and Hazel Marie, b. Dec. 12, 1918.  Both graduated for Gahanna High School.   Maurice was born with no hip socket but never let it slow him down.  Maurice married Eloise Spear, Feb. 21, 1957. They lived in St Louis, Mo.  Eloise had several children by her first husband.

Hazel married James Arthur Lamp on Easter, April 13, 1941.  Jim was a member of the US Coast Guard.  After service, Jim worked in construction with his family business.  They resided at Hebron, Ohio on Buckeye Lake.

Hazel and Jim adopted two children, Victoria and Randall. Victoria married Ralph Mangus, May 10, 1980; they are the parents of one daughter. Vickie is a Realtor and Ralph a druggist , and are now living in Pickerington, Ohio.  Randy and his wife, Cath, were married Dec. 30, 1981 and have a son, Corie, born Sept. 10, 1984. They make their home in Nashville, Tenn.

James and Hazel

James was born Aug. 23, 1887. His name had been Edward but was changed to James because his mother did not like Edward.

He, like all of his brothers, was born in or near Kinderhook, Ohio, and attended church and school near there. He said he walked five miles to school. All the boys except John were taken out of school about 5th grade to work on the family farm.

James courted and married Hazel A. Bowman of Atlanta, Ohio, March 29. 1908.  They lived a year with James' parents, John and Kate, to help with the farm and the house. They later set up housekeeping on Happy Lane near the family home place on $21 they were able to save. They ran several groceries in Williamsport, Ashville, and Circleville.

Their daughter, Aubrey, was born on Sept. 21, 1909. When a young woman, Aubrey, married Roy Lemley; the couple moved to a farm. They had one daughter, Amelia Ruth, who was born Feb. 1, 1929.  When Roy later became ill, they planned to return to Aubrey's parents' grocery business, but Roy died before they could make the move.

After high school and again in 1940, Aubrey worked at the First National Bank. In between, she helped out at James' grocery store. Aubrey and her second husband, George Riggin, and her daughter Amelia, lived with Hazel and Jim until after World War II.

Daughter Amelia also worked at the First National Bank. She married Walter J. Garner who worked at the Savings bank. After Walter's service in the army during the Korean Conflict, he returned to the bank until his retirement in 1978. He served as President of the bank the last few years. Amelia was a stay-at-home mother, but worked as a volunteer of the Red Cross for over 40 years.

Amelia and Walter's children are Barry N. Garner and Ruth G. Garner. Barry has three boys; James, Cory, and Cody. Ruth married Bert Cummins and has two daughters, Megan and MacKenzie Cummins. Barry works for Charley's Steakery as Operations Specialist. Ruth and her husband run an accounting firm in Columbus.
